Grolsch continues to show its ‘Sustainable Character’

The new packaging is 100% plastic free, which means 100,000 kg less of new plastic every year on the Dutch market – the equivalent of over 4 million new plastic bags!

Grolsch has pursued an active sustainability policy for many years. One of the brand key principles is taking a circular, inclusive approach to its business. Almost 100% of all Grolsch packaging for the Dutch market can be recycled. Joost Nawijn, Packaging Material Development Specialist at Royal Grolsch, Asahi’s member company in the Netherlands says: “We have recently transitioned to using 100% recycled plastic for our plastic can carriers. However, our ambition to replace disposable plastic with more sustainable alternatives has led us to continue to innovate. Through a close cooperation with Smurfit Kappa, the developer of the TopClip packaging, we can launch this highly convenient and sustainable packaging. An independent Life Cycle Analysis showed that replacing the current plastic can carriers with TopClip packaging would lead to carbon savings of 36% compared to new plastic and 16% to recycled plastic holders. TopClip packaging is also 100% recyclable and FSC-certified.
