This is an exciting time to join the team, with the Asahi business entering into a new phase of its journey in the UK and Europe, following Asahi's acquisition of the Fuller’s drinks business in April 2019. The operational footprint in the UK has widened, bringing new brewing and distribution capabilities as well as an expanded portfolio - now including cask ales and ciders for the first time.
The business is now looking for a driven and ambitious Legal Counsel professional to support the Head of Legal / Company Secretary in delivering professional support and legal advice to the Asahi International group, with a particular focus on supporting the marketing and sales teams in the UK.
Key Responsibilities
*Provide legal advice to the UK Marketing Director and Marketing teams on the development of advertising campaigns, marketing materials (including websites and social media) and day to day marketing and advertising law matters. This involves regular meetings with these individuals with a view to identifying and mitigating legal and regulatory risks, while achieving commercial objectives of the business.
*Provide legal advice to the UK Sales Director and Sales teams on the development of advertising materials for use in retail and on trade, including review of terms and conditions for promotions and trading terms, and advising on compliance with competition law. This includes the review of customer and supplier contracts and raising any concerns and recommendations to the Sales Director.
*Provide advice to the UK commercial business general contractual issues, including drafting and reviewing all agreements.
*Provides legal advice to the Corporate Affairs and marketing teams on compliance with the laws and codes affecting the marketing and sales of products. This includes acting as an active member of the Sales and Marketing *Committee and management of the relationship with the outsourced promotional verification service.
*Lead negotiations on key customer agreements, and provide negotiation support to the UK Sales and Marketing teams where necessary.
*Drive strong legal and business governance, acting as a point of escalation for issues, and design, implement, and drive compliance with robust internal approval processes for contracts (and provide training to the UK commercial business, as necessary).
*Deliver dispute resolution for UK commercial business, implement robust and proportionate risk management processes within UK commercial business, and manage external lawyers as required.
*Maintain awareness of, and provide advice on, relevant legal/regulatory developments.

*Ability to identify, evaluate and prioritise financial and business risks in order that they may be successfully managed.
*Ensure that the most appropriate risk evaluation and reporting methodology for the organisation is selected and implemented and that a feedback loop to report on remaining risks, adapt policy and refine procedures is included.
*Deliver new ideas that others may have missed.
*Act as Legal business partner with senior colleagues, fully understanding their requirements.
*Find new ways to deliver value to the business, and ensure that legal advice is focussed on business outcomes.
Knowledge and Experience Required
*Appropriate University/bachelor degree qualification.
*Qualified lawyer (admitted in the UK, or with demonstrable common law experience).
*Successful candidate is likely to have between 2 and 5 years of post-qualification experience.
*Significant commercial contracts experience, with relevant experience in law firm and/or multi-national in house environment preferred.
*Experience in marketing and sales work is a strong preference.
*English/common law contract experience is required; knowledge of other European Legal systems would be an advantage
